This week on Third Eye Cinema: a true legend in death metal, the one and only James Murphy!
The first, and perhaps only true guitar hero in the death metal genre, James debuted as a touring member of classic speed metallers Agent Steel, and in short order found himself performing on a number of key albums in the glory days of death metal: Death’s Spiritual Healing, Obituary’s Cause of Death, Cancer’s Death Shall Rise, and his own Disincarnate with Dreams of the Carrion Kind, as well as being a ubiquitous guest soloist on any number of albums recorded by legendary producer Scott Burns at Florida’s Morrisound studios!
Next time on Third Eye Cinema: legendary death metal guitarist, Rick Rozz!
As founding member and lead guitarist for Mantas and then Death alongside Chuck Schuldiner and Kam Lee, Rick set down the template for what would shortly thereafter become an entire genre. With Kam, Terry Butler and Bill Andrews in Massacre, he kept the fires burning and crafted one of the most important and revered single albums in the history of death metal.
With his thick and pummeling guitar tone and crazed whammy-bar centric leads, Rick has proved to be one of the most recognizable players in the genre, alongside such greats as James Murphy, Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel and Bill Steer and Michael Amott of Carcass, lending his sound and vision to the defining Mantas, Death and Massacre demos, Death’s Leprosy and Massacre’s classic From Beyond!
As the producer and owner of Mastersound Studios, he’s worked with gothic metal greats like Elis, Delain, Theatre of Tragedy and Visions of Atlantis, and traditional and thrash metal veterans such as Doro Pesch of Warlock, Whiplash and Anvil!
As the mastermind behind Leaves Eyes, he co-fronts the most recognized and beloved act in gothic, symphonic and viking/pagan metal circles!
And as the leader of his own long running band Atrocity, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of death metal, tapping into gothic, industrial, and even pop territory over a long and varied career spanning back to the mid-80’s!
Join us for an entertaining and informative interview with Alex Krull of Leaves Eyes and Atrocity, only here on Third Eye Cinema!
